Joe Carl

Joe began his career at the age of 18 entering the tree business with his older brother. During this time Joe also pursued his degree in Arboriculture from the University of Farmingdale. He is quite literally an encyclopedia of all things trees.

Joe always had a love for woodworking since he was a kid, however, once he entered the tree business and began to have a family there simply was no time to pursue his passion.

In 1998, his wife Liz gifted him a one-week class at the Windsor Chair Institute with Mike Dunbar in New Hampshire. The class consists of people from all walks of life all over the Northeast coming together for one week to learn how to make a Windsor chair. Joe’s passion for woodworking was re-ignited and he went back to the Institute five more times, learning how to make six different Windsor chairs in total.

In 2001, Joe and his wife moved their family to Chester, Connecticut where Joe began to fully pursue woodworking. Upon arrival to their new home Joe built himself a work shop in his backyard which he still works in today. Over the years he has built anything and everything from Windsor chairs, kitchen cabinets, built ins, hope chests, vanities, small buildings and more.

For the past 20 years Joe’s work has been entirely word of mouth until his daughter Annie introduced him to the digital world in September of 2020 creating him an Instagram, Facebook, and this website. Joe’s Instagram offers an excellent portfolio of all the work he has done and can be found @windsorsandwoodwork .
